Project 'Science and Conservation: Exploring a Research Centre' at the
Centre for Research in Ecology and Arid Zones (CIEZA), Coro, Venezuela.

Realisation status: ONGOING
About CIEZA and the project
The Centre for Research in Ecology and Arid Zones (CIEZA) is part of the Francisco de Miranda National Experimental University (UNEFM), one of the most famous and prestigious universities in Venezuela. Its headquarters are in Coro, Falcón State.
The project 'Science and Conservation: Exploring a Research Centre' seeks to awaken interest in science and conservation in new generations, educating about biodiversity and environmental protection.
The CIEZA Animal Ecology Laboratory will host tours where students can interact with scientific equipment and examine biological samples. Through hands-on activities, such as species identification and data collection, their scientific curiosity and critical thinking will be encouraged.

How we support
The Animal Ecology Laboratory has been in disuse for many years.
We are committed to enhancing the centre’s role as an educational and interactive space by providing financial support for various essential activities.
Our efforts are designed to help focus on improving the visitor experience, promoting learning opportunities and materials, as well as ensuring the functionality of key areas. The focus is on the following measures:
-
Maintenance and adaption of the space: create a welcoming and functional environment; laboratory locks; wall repair; ecological painting; lightning
-
Creation of a biological sample display: ensuring proper presentation and preservation; alcohol; reusable gloves and masks
-
Interactive educational activities and workshops: providing immersive learning experiences; new TV screen
-
Guided tours: offering structured and informative explorations of the centre and its exhibits; white fabric for laboratory coats
-
Awareness Campaigns: highlighting critical environmental and scientific issues; designing and printing of teaching material

What are the long-term goals of the project?
-
Create awareness about biodiversity and the importance of scientific research in environmental protection
-
Motivate basic, secondary and diversified education students to explore scientific concepts through practical experiences and hands-on activities
-
Educate about biodiversity and the importance of conserving endangered species
-
Promote critical thinking and scientific curiosity among students
-
Facilitate direct contact with researchers and professionals in the area
-
Contribute to the protection and conservation of local species and habitats by promoting a culture of respect and care for nature as well as encouraging the community to participate in conservation and environmental protection activities as civil scientists
